Dear Momma

Today the weather was heavy. It was a beautiful and sunny 60 degree day in NYC. Around 3pm, gray clouds darkened the skies and rain began to pour. Twenty minutes later, the sun came out and dried up all the rain (and the itsy bit....jk). An hour later, darker and angrier clouds took over the sunny skies. The rain droplet were THICK and the wind was at 100MPH! You guessed it, the sun came back out at around 6pm and the city was glistening. I turned to my friend at some point and told him, "I think today's weather is reminiscent of motherhood." He agreed.

Today is Mother's Day but it's also a day for all women. At some point or another, and because we are women, we choose and don't choose to have children. We think it we discuss it, we don't; we are even judged according to our decisions on becoming another, or not. I tweeted to all the women out there today inspired by a poem I came across on IG:

We all have a mother and that is as true as death. Right? Regardless of any situation you might have with your mom, you have one. We are supposed to celebrate motherhood everyday because a mother's "job" never stops so why should ours? But we don't. We don't celebrate our mother's everyday. That's human and it's natural. So on this very dedicated day, don't just appreciate your mother but also accept her. Accept her for who and how she is because she is not yours. She is her own like you are your own and I am my own. By accepting someone, you can only gain deep understanding and true connection.  Mothers are powerful, women are powerful.

Today I spent my day eating, dancing, playing and laughing with my family. It was rejuvenating. I sat on the floor and played games with my sisters. We enjoyed some heavenly sancocho for dinner made by our mother and grandmother's godly hands. I knew today was going to be chill vibes but I also know how much our mothers love to see us well dressed. So, I wore this off-the-shoulder romper with a short sleeve button up top underneath. We are always children when our mothers are present, but in our daily lives, we are adults learning to navigate through this life. My way of translating that idea into an outfit was by juxtaposing a sophisticated collar shirt with the young romper and a pair of chucks.

If you can love women more, please do.
